A large room facing northeast that was given a simple altar. The idea wasn\u2019t welcomed warmly in the city\u2019s ecclesiastical and popular circles.<\/p>\n<p>But Bishop Parrado and architect Jer\u00f3nimo Arroyo kept hope alive for building a \u2018divine colossus\u2019 for Palencia. Victorio Macho, for his part, laid the financial and structural groundwork for the project and in June 1930, the cornerstone was laid.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t until February 1931, eight months later, that the Monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus was completed.
